99 Ways to Know ALLAH
KNOWING ALLAH
Islam means submission to the will of Allah, The Almighty Creator. In 1994, I accepted Islam as my spiritual path and way of life. I became a Muslim. That was a cherished moment and the start of a spiritual journey that changed my life—wonderfully and profoundly.
The impact of what I’ve gained through practicing Islam is far-reaching. It is a blessing that has renewed and improved me and I am eternally grateful to Allah, al-Hadi—The One who faithfully continues to guide aright until the goal is finally attained. Indeed, all glory and praise is due to al-Hadi for His guidance.
Islam is like an ocean—vast in its depth and far-reaching in its width and impact. It is a mercy given to all humankind by Allah, al-Kareem, (The Most Generous), and it is both simple and complex, very fulfilling yet somewhat insatiate, enough to satisfy one’s spiritual needs, yet keeps one wanting and reaching for more of its goodness. For anyone who embraces it with a pure heart and a keen intellect, it spawns an endless beneficial evolution of the soul.
Allah is known also as al-Khaaliq, The One who creates something from nothing; The One who creates both the inner and the outer in just proportions; The One who brings things into existence from a state of non-existence; and The One who has the power to change things back and forth between the states of existing and non-existing. He is the Fashioner of everything (Al-Musawwir) and studying His beautiful names (known in Arabic as Asma ul husna “The Most Beautiful Names”), is one way to dive deeper into the study of Islam’s beautiful ocean and will necessarily cultivate a deeper love for Him. Imagine the rewards that comes with that.
Narrated by Abu Huraira, Prophet Muhammad, may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said, “Allah has ninety-nine names, i.e. one-hundred minus one, and whoever knows them will go to Paradise.” (Sahih Al-Bukhari 50:894). Therefore, I pray this book will help us know and remember Allah’s beautiful names. And I pray that the knowledge we gain from it becomes a source to help us earn good in this world, and good in the Hereafter. And I pray that it makes us better and more inspired believers. Ameen.
May Allah will shower all of us with His love, mercy, blessings and forgiveness as we take the journey of knowing Him more deeply.
