Society News Doctors Sue Obama Administration for Forcing Them to Perform Gender Transition Procedures

Five states and a group of religiously-affiliated hospitals and physicians are suing the Obama administration over a federal mandate that forces doctors to perform gender transition procedures on adults and children against their medical judgment.

The lawsuit, filed Tuesday in a Texas federal court, attempts to roll back a rule imposed by the Department of Health and Human Services in May that expanded the interpretation of “sex” under the Affordable Care Act to include “gender identity.”

In doing so, the Obama administration added transgender people to the list of protected classes under the Affordable Care Act, which states that individuals can’t be denied certain federally-funded health benefits because of their “race, color, national origin, sex, age, or disability.”

The move was part of a broader push by President Barack Obama to further transgender rights in the U.S.

Most pediatricians say parents have refused vaccines for their kids

More doctors are reporting run-ins with parents refusing to vaccinate their kids than a decade ago, but parents' reasons for skipping immunizations have shifted in the past decade.

A new survey published in Pediatrics on Monday reports that 87 percent of pediatricians in the United States say they encountered parents refusing to vaccinate their children in 2013. A decade earlier, 75 percent of doctors reported they had experienced vaccine refusals.

The most common reason parents gave: the vaccines weren't necessary.

"Vaccines have been so good at taking diseases away that when we don't see diseases, we don't think they're important," said Dr. Kathryn Edwards, a pediatrician and director of the Vanderbilt Vaccine Research Program.

I am not saying to parents, don't vaccinate; but for Pete's sake, do the due dilligence before your child is immunized.

I have a very smart acquaintance here, whose kids go to public school. The kids had their immunizations, but separately, not bundled into a mega-dose.

The problem with bundling vaccines is that they have not been tested in combination, only individually.

Dr. Edwards, parents deserve the best outcomes, if they are having their kids vaccinated; not permanent injuries or deaths.

We have to come down hard on the vaccine companies to test those combinations, and for them to be be very public with the results of those studies; otherwise, no one is going to trust

A recent mathematical model study has found a potential link between water fluoridation and type 2 diabetes.

A study from Ohio’s Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine used mathematical modeling to discover a connection between water fluoridation and a rise in diabetes in the United States between 2005 and 2010. The study, "Community water fluoridation predicts increase in age-adjusted incidence and prevalence of diabetes in 22 states from 2005 and 2010," was published in the Journal of Water and Health in late May.
