While Israel Kill Gaza's Children, Media Shield The Truth About Hamas

We're fed the relentless myth that Israel left Gaza with 'benign intent', 'gifting all those greenhouses', all that 'goodwill infrastructure', to those 'thankless' Palestinians, who only went on to support Hamas.

I have not written much lately and this post may be personal and emotional. Our days start early and end very late. Our nights are also occasionally interrupted by calls from friends in Gaza or others who need some support. In the past 48 hours, over 100 Palestinian civilians were killed by Israeli...

Israelis have got the Egyptians delaying humanitarian aid from Iran. They have attacked the Venezeulan Convoy and I have heard that they also stopped Dr Swee Ang and her Medical colleague from entering Gaza where they both wished to offer their medical expertise
Instead the Israelis detained them and then deported them

Venezuelan ambassador to Egypt, Juan Antonio Hernandez, said Wednesday that an Israeli aircraft attacked the Venezuelan humanitarian delegation in Rafah along the border post between Egypt and Palestine. The delegation was delivering twelve tons of aid to the Palestinian people. No one was injured. The F-16 airplane dropped a missile very close to the humanitarian site, though it did not explode. The ambassador confirmed that the missile fell approximately 50 to 70 meters from the site.
Hernandez referred to the action as "an act of intimidation, which is not a coincidence and it proves that Tel Aviv is trying to halt humanitarian aid, because right now Venezuela is an important beacon for the Palestinian people”. In an open letter published yesterday in Cuban media, Fidel Castro praised Venezuelan president Nicolas Maduro for following up quickly on his promise to send aid to Palestine. "It made me extraordinarily happy that he [Maduro] came through with his visit so soon, wrote Castro, “not only due to the honor that his presence implies and the prompt action, because of the very difficult task that it means to continue on with the epic battle of Hugo Chavez, but also because of the exceptional activities that he is carrying out with Palestine. El Universal reported that Roni Kaplan, the spokesperson of the Israel Defense Forces, asserted that "there was no attack by the Israeli forces on the Egyptian side of Gaza. The air force has not attacked nor launched sound bombs to any humanitarian convoy on its way to Gaza from Egypt.” Maduro has proven himself as staunch a supporter of Palestine as Chavez, recently opening a shelter for children orphaned by the conflict named after the late president. (A full image set of the shelter can be viewed on VA.com here). The Venezuelan leader also pledged to assist reconstruction efforts of the war-torn Gaza strip. Israeli violence isn’t senseless — it follows a colonial logic.by Greg Shupak One could be forgiven for understanding Israel’s actions in the Gaza Strip as butchery for its own sake. That’s a plausible interpretation of the killing of 1,284 Palestinians, at least 75 percent of whom...

No symmetry!
Not only in terms of weaponry, but especially politically, there is no symmetry between the two sides. One side is the oppressor, the other the oppressed. It is not Palestine that holds Israel occupied, under siege (Gaza), fragmented (West Bank) and without political rights. 3. Germany and our particular responsibility
Germany and its ruling political class are neither neutral, nor balanced or equidistant. The same Israel, which denies the nation under its oppression any democracy, freedom, basic human and civil rights for half a century (and now again for three weeks with tanks and bombers) is courted by Germany as a close strategic partner, supplied with generous multi-billion dollar weapons systems and privileged economically through dozens of special rules and treaties in business, politics, and culture. (Settler products are just the tip of this iceberg.) On a daily basis, Germany – deliberately, by its actions and by its silence – turns itself into an accomplice in keeping the occupation functioning and running; in the daily violation of even the minimal guarantees under Oslo, in allowing Israel to feel above international rights, obligations and minimum standards, and to act accordingly.
Germany, its ruling class and its political personnel, chooses and picks the side with which it aligns in a thousand different ways. We say not in our name! As fellows of the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation – her legacy is our commitment – we are against any form, type and degree of colonialism, apartheid and occupation – including the Israeli… Our understanding of politics and history is a different one. We do not believe that Germany’s responsibility for the industrial extermination of six million Jews – as well as our special responsibility to be alert against any form of anti-Semitism and to never allow history to repeat itself – should translate themselves into the support of the regime of institutionalized and systematic discrimination and dispossession practiced by the Israeli state against the Palestinian people………………’

PRESS RELEASE European Union must end its military support for Israel
As the conflict in the Gaza Strip continues to escalate, and the body count continues to increase the European Network Against Arms Trade (ENAAT) has called for an immediate end to all European military support for Israel and for the EU to declare a comprehensive arms embargo on all parties in conflict. Pending such an embargo, all EU states must immediately suspend all transfers of military equipment, assistance and ammunitions to the parties in conflict.
When taken together European countries are one of Israel’s main suppliers of military systems and equipment, behind only the US. In the last ten years EU countries have licensed around €1.5 billion of military contracts to Israel, including over €600 million in 2012 alone. This has included ammunition, weapon firing equipment and components for military aircrafts and vehicles. According to EU Reports, European countries have not sent arms or military systems to Palestine since 2002.
Dutch components of F16 fighters, Apache attack helicopters and Hellfire rockets end up with the Israeli armed forces through co-production agreements with US companies. Italy is the largest supplier in the European Union of military systems to Israel. Since the recent Israeli air raids on Gaza Strip began, Alenia Aermacchi (an Italian company controlled by the Finmeccanica group) sent the first two M-346 trainer aircraft to Israeli Air Force. Similarly, Spanish arms exports to Israel have doubled since 2008.
Andrew Smith of Campaign Against Arms Trade said: “The sale of weapons doesn't just give Israel military support, it also gives it a strong political support. Europe has to use its influence to promote reconciliation, not fuel the cycle of war and conflict. An immediate embargo of all arms sales from EU countries to Israel and all parts in conflict is essential if the EU is to play a peacemaker role and to send a message that it does not support the actions of the Israeli government and the escalation of the conflict.
A number of European countries have a two-way relationship with Israel, with many spending millions of euros each year on 'battle-tested' arms from Israeli companies. One growing link is in the area of unmanned aerial vehicles or drones.
For example, Spain has imported the Searcher unmanned aircraft from Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI). In 2005, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) in the UK awarded UAV Tactical Systems Ltd (U-TacS), a joint venture between Israeli arms company Elbit Systems and its partner company Thales UK, a contract which would ultimately be worth nearly £1 billion for the development of the Watchkeeper WK450 drones.
Giorgio Beretta of the Italian Disarmament Network commented: “We appreciate the call to all parties in the conflict for an immediate ceasefire expressed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Federica Mogherini. Accordingly, the Italian Government – which this semester holds the Presidency of the Council of the European Union and it is one of the major European exporter of military systems to Israel – should without delay promote actions leading to an EU embargo on weapons and military equipments to all parties in the conflict, in order to protect civilians and foster the resumption of negotiations
